Omarion Signs to Rick Ross MMG

As soon as an invite to a Maybach Music Group -- Rick Ross' Warner Bros. imprint -- press conference hit many inboxes, theories of what would be discussed sprung up across many timelines.

At today's Maybach Music Group press conference, moderated by Rap Radar's Elliott Wilson, Rick Ross and co. made numerous reveals, including the announcement of Omarion as the newest member of Maybach Music. Before Omarion (aka "Maybach O") shared his gratitude and debuted a teaser to his upcoming video for "Let's Talk," all members of Maybach Music Group -- except for Stalley, who is currently on tour -- announced the release dates for their upcoming projects: Maybach Music's second compliation album, "Self Made Vol. 2" (June 26), Meek Mill 's debut album, "Dreams and Nightmares" (August 28), and Rick Ross' highly-anticipated "God Forgives, I Don't," out July 31.

Close to 2:30 EST on Wednesday (May 2), the conference room at Kimpton Hotel, Eventi, quickly filled with writers (HipHopDX, Rolling Stone, Grantland, Complex, ItstheReal), photographers, Def Jam and Warner Bros publicists and executives -- Lyor Cohen, Steve Bartels, Todd Moscowitz, Joie Manda, Gabe Tesoriero, Alexandra Bianchi, J.D. Anderson, Phylicia Fant, and hip-hop moguls Swizz Beatz and Diddy.

Lyor Cohen shared a few words on Def Jam's legacy and his respect with Ross before introducing the rapper. "When I got a chance to meet him, I saw someone that was going to be undeterred in achieving the success that he has," Cohen said, via HipHopDX. "He's not satisfied. There's no stopping him. I'm so grateful that I'm associated with him and that the Warner Bros. label is associated with him. The possibilities that Rick and Maybach Music are going to bring is going to be, in my mind, unprecedented."

Swizz Beatz and Diddy followed suit, speaking on their ventures with Rick Ross. Swizz announced that through their Reebok partnership, both will be releasing a big and tall clothing line.

Diddy took the podium next to pay his respects to Ross for supporting him and helping him promote Ciroc. "He, to me, is one of the hardest working men in this business. To have a relationship with him, this is not by accident," Diddy said. "I know he will go down in history as one of the great record men."  

Wale, Meek Mill, French Montana -- who is signed to Diddy's Bad Boy Records but has a close relationship with Rick Ross -- also took to the stage to discuss their upcoming projects before Ross announced Omarion's MMG signing. Read More

Junior Seau Died at 43 years old

Football has lost one of its greats.

On Wednesday, Junior Seau, who had a 19-year-run in the NFL before retiring in 2009, was found dead inside his Oceanside, Calif. home. He was just 43 years old.

Sources tell TMZ that the famed linebacker had suffered and died from a self-inflicted gunshot wound to the chest. The apparent suicide case is still developing.

"R.I.P Jr. Seau one of the greatest players to play the game!" Kim Kardashian's ex-boyfriend and Miami Dolphins running back Reggie Bush posted.

"I'm so sad. RIP JUNIOR SEAU. He was an amazing player and an amazing man. I looked up to him when I was young. :(" Kendra Wilkinson, whose hubby is NFL free agent Hank Baskett, tweeted.

Seau's height of his career was in the 1990s when he was on the San Diego Chargers. He later played for the Miami Dolphins for two years, followed by a three-year run with the New England Patriots.

On Wednesday afternoon, the Chargers released a statement on their official website.

"Everyone at the Chargers is in complete shock and disbelief right now. We ask everyone to stop what they're doing and send their prayers to Junior and his family."

With Social Media, Kick Off Your Conservative Pants

When using social media -- especially for business purposes -- young people have a tendency to put their conservative pants on and act like robots. I don't understand this at all.

Just because you represent a business doesn't mean you have to be boring and lifeless. We're in a new age where consumers are smart enough to know that companies aren't faceless, but in fact they are run by real people with real personalities. Some of the most popular business Twitter/Facebook accounts are ones where people inject their personality, humor and interests into posts. Here's how you can too:

Shake it up.
It helps to think of social media like a party. When you show up to a party, are you going to stand in one spot and spout off about the outfit you're wearing, what you plan on doing for the next hour and expect people to come up to you begging to hear more? No. You're going to walk around, shake hands, introduce yourself to people, listen to strangers, jump in random conversations and actually be social. That's the key. You need to avoid treating social media as a one-way street, and you need to talk to people online like you would in real life. Relate to them, have conversations about things they want to talk about and actually care about the relationships you're building.

Don't mind critics.
For some conversations, you shouldn't even mention your business/product/service. Also remember that, just like at a party, you may encounter people who don't like you. Fortunately, attention spans on the web are incredibly short, so that person who's unhappy with you now will likely move on quickly. Either way, though, you'll need to develop a thicker skin, and try not to let criticism hold you back from injecting your personal voice into your online activities.

Be human.

Then of course there are the tried-and-true tips like be a human being and transparent in your social-media activities. Saying, "Hi, this is Jason from XYZ company and these tweets are all written by me," is much more approachable than referring to yourself as the proverbial "we" or pretending to be the entire company. The Twitter accounts for Delta Air Lines (@DeltaAssist) and Zappos (@Zappos_Service) offer great examples to learn from, especially when it comes to customer service.

Ask real questions.
Ask questions you'd actually want to answer, and answer other people's questions. It's easy to say, "Who wants to try our new XYZ product?" Instead, try something like "What's the last thing you purchased online?" Or "Anyone buy anything cool lately?" This opens the door to conversation more easily than a post about your latest product offering.

Have a sense of humor.
Don't be afraid to add a little humor to your updates/posts/videos. Humor is something that connects us all, and for the most part people like things that surprise and delight them. The world is filled with so much content, so having a little fun with things can go along way to building trust with your audience.

Be authentic.
Every business is different, and every social-media community is different. If you focus on your strengths and keep an authentic voice, you're never going to replicate something someone else is doing. Be who you are and your social-media audience will respond positively.
